A practical English guide to Tokashiki in Okinawa: the Kerama beaches, the snorkelling, the village and access by ferry from Naha.

Operational details such as opening hours, admission fees, and train times can change. Prefer official pages and reconfirm before you travel (sources checked on 07 November 2026).

Why visit

  • Tokashiki is one of the Kerama islands, a short ferry ride west of Naha, and it is the easiest of them to visit. The water around the Keramas is famously clear, with coral and fish close to the shore, and the beaches at Aharen and Tokashiku are among the best on the Okinawan islands.
  • The island has one main village, a few small shops and guesthouses, and a coast of cliffs and bays. It is small enough to explore by rental scooter or bicycle, and the pace is slow even in summer, when day-trippers arrive from Naha.
  • Tokashiki is also a place to see the Kerama blue water without a liveaboard, with snorkelling trips and dive shops in the village, and it works as a day trip or a two-night stay.
