Why visit

  • Kushima is a coastal town at the southern end of Miyazaki, near the border with Kagoshima, and it is one of the quieter places on the Nichinan coast. The sea is warm and the coast runs in small bays and headlands, with fishing harbours and quiet roads.
  • The town is known for its roadside park and its coastal views, and for the landscape of subtropical plants, farms and forest behind the shore. The surrounding area has shrines, beaches and the old roads of southern Kyushu.
  • Kushima is on the JR Nichinan line and the coastal road, which makes it a stop on the route between Miyazaki and Kagoshima, and it is far from the crowds of the better-known resorts.
