A practical English guide to Kamifurano in Hokkaido: the flower farms, the Tokachi range views, the farm food and access from Asahikawa and Furano.
Operational details such as opening hours, admission fees, and train times can change. Prefer official pages and reconfirm before you travel (sources checked on 07 November 2026).
Why visit
- Kamifurano is one of the farm towns in the middle of Hokkaido, on the plain between Asahikawa and Furano. It is famous for two things: flower farms, especially lavender in early summer, and the view west towards the Tokachi range, a line of high peaks that fills the skyline.
- The town is small and spread out, with fields running to the edge of the mountains. In July the lavender fields draw crowds, but the rest of the year it is a quiet agricultural place where the attractions are farm food, viewpoints and the scale of the landscape.
- Kamifurano works well as a base for the wider area: Furano’s fields and wine, Biei’s hills, and the roads into Daisetsuzan National Park. It is also close enough to Asahikawa for an airport connection.
