A practical English guide to Komatsushima in Tokushima: the port, the coast and access from Tokushima city.

Operational details such as opening hours, admission fees, and train times can change. Prefer official pages and reconfirm before you travel (sources checked on 08 November 2026).

Why visit

  • Komatsushima is a port city on the coast of Tokushima, just south of Tokushima city, and it has been a harbour for centuries. The port handles ferries and cargo, and the town around it is a practical place of shops, stations and fishing.
  • The coast has small beaches and views across the Kii channel, and the hills behind the town have temples and quiet roads. It is close enough to Tokushima to be a short trip, and far enough to feel like a separate place.
  • Komatsushima is on the JR Mugi line, which makes it an easy stop from Tokushima, and it is a good place to see the working coast of eastern Shikoku.
