Why visit

  • Ube is a city on the Seto Inland Sea in Yamaguchi, west of Hiroshima and east of Shimonoseki. It grew as an industrial and coal town, and today it is known for its outdoor sculpture: parks and streets filled with modern works that have made the city a quiet destination for art.
  • Beyond the sculpture, Ube has a coast of harbours and beaches, a small airport and a practical centre of shops and stations. The surrounding hills have hot springs and views over the Inland Sea.
  • Ube is on the Sanyo main line and has its own airport, which makes it easy to reach, and it is a good stop for anyone interested in public art and the working coast of the region.
