Why visit
- Iga is a small city in western Mie, surrounded by low mountains, and it is famous as the home of the ninja. The Iga school of ninjutsu was based in this valley, and the city has built a museum and a ninja park around that history, with displays of tools, techniques and the geography that made the area easy to defend.
- Beyond the ninja theme, Iga is a quiet castle town with a small castle site, old streets, temples and a strong tradition of pottery and agriculture. The valley is green and enclosed, and the pace is slow.
- Iga is within reach of Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya, which makes it a popular day trip, but the town itself remains uncommercial outside the ninja attractions.
