A practical English guide to Motegi in Tochigi: the mobility resort and circuit, the countryside and access from Tokyo and Utsunomiya.

Operational details such as opening hours, admission fees, and train times can change. Prefer official pages and reconfirm before you travel (sources checked on 07 November 2026).

Why visit

  • Motegi is a small town in eastern Tochigi, surrounded by fields and low hills, and it is known for one thing: the mobility resort built around a major race circuit. The complex includes a road course, an oval, a kart track and a museum of motorcycles and cars, and it draws visitors from across the Kanto region.
  • Outside the circuit, Motegi is farming country, with rice, vegetables and a quiet landscape of small roads and woodlands. The town itself is modest, with a handful of shops and restaurants, and the appeal is the combination of a specialised attraction with a rural setting.
  • It is a good day out for families and for anyone interested in motorsport, and it is close enough to Tokyo and Utsunomiya to reach without a car, though the last stretch is easier by bus or taxi.
