Why visit
- Awa is a city in northern Tokushima, in the basin of the Yoshino river inland from Tokushima city. It is farming country, with fields of rice and vegetables, and a practical centre of shops and stations.
- The city is quiet and spread along the river valleys, with temples, small museums and roads that climb into the mountains of Shikoku. It is not a tourist destination, but it is a good place to see the ordinary rural life of the prefecture.
- Awa is close to Tokushima city, which makes it an easy half-day trip into the farm country behind the coast.
