A practical English guide to Tajimi in Gifu: the ceramics trade, the station centre and access from Nagoya.

Operational details such as opening hours, admission fees, and train times can change. Prefer official pages and reconfirm before you travel (sources checked on 08 November 2026).

Why visit

  • Tajimi is a city in southeastern Gifu, in the hills between Nagoya and the Kiso valley, and it is one of the main centres of Japanese ceramics. The surrounding Mino area has made pottery for centuries, and Tajimi is where the kilns, shops and museums gather.
  • The centre around the station is a practical town of shops and civic buildings, with ceramics shops and small museums within walking distance. The hills beyond hold kiln sites, old roads and quiet residential streets.
  • Tajimi is on the JR Chuo main line, about forty minutes from Nagoya, which makes it an easy half-day or day trip for anyone interested in pottery and the ordinary towns of Gifu.
