Why visit

  • Otoyo is a mountain town in central Kochi, in the valleys of the Yoshino river system, inland from Kochi city. It is forest country, with steep slopes, small settlements and roads that follow the water, and it is one of the quieter parts of Shikoku.
  • The town has an old shrine and a landscape of terraced fields and cedar forest, and the river valleys are known for their clear water and their autumn colour. There are hot springs and mountain roads in the surrounding area, and the town is a stop on the route inland.
  • Otoyo is on the JR Dosan line and the Kochi expressway, which makes it reachable from Kochi city in under an hour, and it is a good place to see the mountain interior of the island.
